A well-known figure in the tight-knit Beirut music scene is Fadi Tabbal - a Lebanese-born musician, band manager and engineer who founded Tunefork Recording Studios in Burj Hammoud. In this conversation, Fadi speaks of his decision to return to Beirut after studying in Canada, current projects, and his hopes for the future of the city's music scene.

Fadi Tabbal

In this conversation, recorded at Beirut Open Stage, a music venue located in the trendy neighborhood of Mar Mikhael, Tabbal speaks of his return to Lebanon after studying in Montreal for several years and comments on being labeled "the hardest-working man in Lebanon's alternative music scene". Fadi is unsure of who first said those words, but acknowledges the fact that he does have a hand in several music-related projects in the city. In fact, this meeting was held at a music venue where Fadi was soundchecking for a performance by Chyno and the Clique.

Music featured in this episode, in order:

The Bunny Tylers - "It Seems It All Disappears"
Fadi Tabbal - "Somewhere in Time"

Founder of Tunefork Recording Studios in Burj Hammud, Beirut.

Often referred to as “the hardest-working man in Lebanon’s alternative music scene,” Tabbal relocated to Beirut in 2006, following studies in sound engineering in Montreal, Canada; he promptly established Tunefork Recording Studios, a specialized work-space which offers customized services including full band recordings, live sound, music production and composition.

Tabbal is a full-time member of several Lebanese bands: psychedelic rock band The Incompetents, punk band Scrambled Eggs, electronic duo Stress/Distress, and was previously part of pop group Safar, indie rock outfit Interbellum, and singer-songwriter Youmna Saba's project. His newest project The Bunny Tylers (with Charbel Haber) veers between drone, electronics, post-rock and noise rock.

Fadi Tabbal has worked with some of the most renowned Lebanese and International acts in today's contemporary alternative music scene, including  Asil Ensemble, Kinematic, Mike Cooper, Postcards, Sharif Sehnaoui, The Wanton Bishops and Who Killed Bruce Lee, to name but a few.

In addition to managing and handling all engineering tasks at Tunefork Studios, Tabbal is a specialist in sound design and sound conception.
