Julie Hakim Azzam is a professor, writer, and activist. She is currently a Visiting Lecturer in the English Department at the University of Pittsburgh. She has a PhD in Literary and Cultural Studies; her academic research focuses on the aesthetics of horror in contemporary postcolonial fiction. She is currently researching graphic novels, memoirs, and journalism about the Middle East. A member of the National Book Critics Circle, Julie has published pieces in the 'Pittsburgh Post­ Gazette' and the 'Times Literary
Supplement' (TLS).
