Ermin Sinanovic is currently the executive director of the Center for Islam in the Contemporary World (CICW) at Shenandoah University, where he is also Scholar in Residence. Before joining CICW, he was director of research and academic programs at the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), and an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Ermin was also a faculty associate in research, Southeast Asian Program at Cornell University.

Ermin studied for his Master of Arts and Ph.D. in Political Science at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University. Before coming to the US, he obtained two bachelor's degrees (one in the Qur’an and Sunnah studies, the other in political science) from the International Islamic University Malaysia, and a master's degree (Islamic civilization) from the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Having studied Islam and political science for most of his adult life, Ermin has learned English, Arabic, and Malay - beside his native Bosnian (Serbian/Croatian).

Ermin's research is on transnational Islamic revival, Islamist activism, politics of Southeast Asia, contemporary Islamic thought, and institutionalization of Islam in the Balkans and Southeast Asia.
